How Can You Affect the Bishop’s Election ?

                                             - Scott Grorud

With the resignation of Stan Olson as Bishop, the process of electing a new bishop will soon begin. The steps in the process are outlined in the constitution of the synod. The following summary is taken from the synod's web site.   "The Synod's election process for a bishop is defined in section S9.04 and the following subsections of the Synod Constitution and Bylaws. Briefly, this process includes: recommendation of candidates by members of the synod and distribution of information, nomination of five candidates by conference assemblies, candidate forums and other information sharing before the Synod, Assembly meets election by the Synod Assembly."

Nearly every step of this process affords WordAlone supporters an opportunity to help elect a bishop who supports our reform agenda.  The most important of these are:

STEP 1   learn as much as you can about all the possible candidates for bishop and            how they stand on Word Alone issues

STEP 2 get appointed/elected to serve as delegates to conference and synod                    assemblies.

Many churches struggle to find delegates to attend conference assemblies, but in an election year, these are very important gatherings. Only those five candidates who are nominated in the most conferences are eligible for election by the synod assembly. To have Word Alone candidates nominated in every conference of the synod is critically important.
